Nattitude!

Something great is happening in Natstown. Despite a disappointing series against the woeful Rockies (lost 2 of 3), the Nats head into the All-Star break with the best record in the National League (49-33) and a 4 game lead over the Braves in the N.L. East.  Four Nats players, Stephen Strasburg, Gio Gonzales, Ian Desmond, and Bryce Harper were all selected for the All-Star game, although Desmond has pulled out due to an oblique strain.  Pitching and incredible defense remain the strengths of this young team.  The bats have shown signs of life and will hopefully continue to improve after the break.  With Drew Storen, Jayson Werth, and bench player Chad Tracy scheduled to come off the DL shortly after the break, the Nats will finally be able to field the team they had envisioned coming out of spring training.

The Nats have to play a number of tough series within the division after the All-Star break starting with the Marlins in Miami.  Then it's on to the Mets, the Braves, and the Mets again.  I believe we will find out how good this team really is during this stretch.  If the Baseball Gods are good, the Nats will come out of these series with a commanding lead in the N.L. East. If not, well, it'll take a Herculean effort by the entire team to make it to the post season.

There will be bumps in the road like the Colorado series, but I believe that this team will continue to win.  After all, there are 162 games and bad teams will beat good teams from time to time.  It's simply the law of averages. Whether the Nats will make it to the postseason is hard to predict. The last time a Washington team made it to the World Series was in 1933, and the last time they were in a pennant race was 1945.  The 2005 Nationals went into the All-Star break with a record of 51-32 but collapsed in the second half to finish last in the division with a record of 81-81. The 2012 squad is a far different and far more talented than the 2005 team. Only one thing is for sure, regardless of what happens, it's going to be a hell of a ride.

GO NATS!! GO NUTS!!
